ST. JOE BEACH

Its demolition signals yet another end to a piece of local, if not old Florida, history.

self-proclaimed “world famous” Wonder Bar, on U.S. 98 in St. Joe Beach,
came tumbling down Tuesday morning, another casualty of development.

As
crews prepped the building for demolition last Friday, Wonder Bar
patrons kept stopping by for one last stroll around the well-known
night spot.

Reportedly
built in 1946, when virtually no other buildings existed along the
beach, the Wonder Bar served thousands of locals and visitors, and
entertained them with music, parties, late-night volleyball and
assorted beachside antics. The well-known Buddy Hamm Band was the house

  1. Sarah Herring lives in Marathon, Fl. She is now Mrs. Sarah Harper. She married Roy V. Harper a long time ago.

  2. Wondering if anyone has seen or knows of Sarah Herring, who worked at the Wonder Bar in the late 1980′s/early 90′s? We were friends but we’ve lost touch. Thank you!

  3. Do you know where Buddy Hamm is now? Telephone number? I would like to call him and see if he’s playing somewhere near Mexico Beach.

As of early February he was at the Haughty Heron in Port St. Joe. They could probably give you a number.

  4. I have been to the Wonder Bar many times as I grew up in the area. It was a Famous Place and the News Herald is right, it stood on the isolated Gulf County Beach when no other Buildings were in site. What a waste to a great bar.
